The HolyRoller is a 230 cm (8') cylinder, made of aluminum and rubber, that rolls along the beach, propelled by 3 men walking inside. The roller impresses over and over, 4 religious symbols in the sand.
My intent with the piece (and with all my work) is to ask more questions than I answer. You can interpret it in at least 2 ways: am I trying to unite these disparate beliefs;or am I symbolically trying to stamp out religion? When you look at the history of civilization you can see 2 sides of the same coin: magnificent art and architecture created in the name of religion;and mass destruction and genocide, also in the name of religion.
